- “They’re playing like they don’t even know how to play the game.” – Dan Fouts, commentatin’ on the Oakland Raiders‘ 31-0 first-quarter lead over the Denver Broncos.
- “Don’t kid yourself.” – Near-satanic ad pitch by Lipitor. They have no shame, the ad reps over there …
- “Through the clouds I see love shine / It keeps me warm as life grows colder” – one of the most poetic statements I’ve ever laughed for five minutes over (seriously, like “HAGHGH, HAAAAAGHGHCKJBKSCK“), courtesy Foreigner‘s “I Wanna Know What Love Is”
- “I know this is Pigskin but this ain’t the county fair.” – Fouts, again, explaining the inadequacy of the Broncos in lurid, possibly crossing-the-line fashion.
- “Americans feel, you know, that there’s nothing wrong in telling someone how you feel. And then to be punished for that is unfair and it amounts to censorship.” – Juan Williams, reacting — rather than responding — to his firing at the hands of NPR due to statements he made about Muslims. I gotta go with NPR on this one. And for Fox to hire a Muslim-basher? Masterstroke.
- “You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords / Mind he’s strictly rhythm he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing / And an old guitar is all he can afford / When he gets up under the lights to play his thing” – Snippet from “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits, a tight track if not a poetic one. Still, this sort of, sort of, SORT of stuck.
- “But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.” - Williams, going toe-to-tonsil a few days or so ago.
