“Life quotes” Part 2 [Curiosities #87]

Amassed below are several real-life quotes I’ve heard amid my always-purposeful (HA!) existence.

• “Well, I woke up one day, and I just couldn’t get out of bed. I was frozen. I lost my house. I lost that … and a lot of other things, and now I’m here; I’m bipolar, man. You gotta understand that I didn’t all-of-a-sudden just go crazy — I snapped.” [A homeless guy says this at some point during a conversation with Alex and Colin Younkin, Paul Warner and I (I think there were other people with us, can't remember who) in downtown Los Angeles, a brittle place. He is explaining to me how he got "this way, eloquence and all." He went from working a decent job to living on the street and he still didn't seem to have the whole process by which he took such a precipitant fall figured out. I think he had taken a lot of time to think about it though.]
  
• “You … you have a lot of good, new shirts.” [an eighth-grade Matt Wilms, now of Seattle band Bullet Club, commenting on my bearing of a few new shirts: One with an alien dressed in ghetto garb emblazoned with the word "Nucklehead," the other a recreation of a popular detergent brand. This might seem like a minor quote but it was a big deal to get a shirt compliment back then.]
• “I wanna do it / but you know it won’t end up being good-for-either-of-us.” [Joel Baxter, somewhat ineptly imitating a popular Built To Spill song, ("Cars," check it out below) when drunk, and substituting his own words for: "I wanna see it / when you find out what comets, stars, and moons-are-all-about." Again: Check-check out the video to "Cars" below, it's classic shtuff.]
• “I’m living vicariously through you, you understand; I’m watching you and wishing I were still so young … So anyway, next time you see her you gotta TAWk to her, you gotta single her out, know what I mean? She likes you bro, she definitely likes you …” [customer at Subway, around, say, 1997, confiding in me that he's noticed a girl is "into" me (the girl's name, I think, was Amanda, and she majored in fashion, I think, at the art institute located close to the Subway. And I did end up hanging out with her, to hilarious, promising-but-ultimately-fruitless ends) and, while he's at it, giving me advice that, at that time, I desperately needed]
• “Yeah, pfffft [shakes head] just gettin’ ready to take a piss and shit like that.” [Phil Anselmo in 1994; Pantera is about to close a show also featuring Gumshoe life-time faves Prong and Sepultura; we've been waiting for Phil to show up for hours -- or at least, like 20 minutes -- and then BAMMO, BAMMO, he gets out of this monstrous bus looking like Frazier kidney-punched him and deep-throating the above-refrain. We were mesmerized despite the crudity of the actual words used ... or because of it.]
• “The one thing, bro, that I wanna see is I wanna see my grandfather watch me take the walk and graduate. Just to have him see me up there, pulling off shit that no one in this family has; that’s what I WANT.” [Shane Burchardi, roommate in Florida, talking about his dreams one night over a few beers.]
