“I’m Just Telling You What I Heard”/Listening Log for September 2010 [Curiosities #85]

Heyyy, good to have you back ...

God, it has been aWHILE since I updated ye olde Listening Log, so I just did it in hope I didn’t alienate you too much with my slacker-ness.

Here it is, a chronicle of my listening habits that may/may not be part of some other section of this god-forsaken site:

Purling Hiss – “Hissteria” LP [Richie Records/TestosterTunes] (It’s so rare to find post-Stooges STOMPs without the requisite inability to go beyond the Riff and the Concept. This one does.)
Jonsi & Alex – “Riceboy Sleeps” 2XLP [XL Records] (It’s hard to put into words how much this record has inspired me. Yes, my copy is a bit scuffed from wear/tear and paper sleeves, but I can get over that. Just heard about a new mixtape, too; more soon hopefully!)
AFCGT – self-titled 10-inch, red vinyl [Dirty Knobby Records] (I already DIDN’T review this [yet still reviewed this] recently and, well, maybe I should beef the post up a bit because this record is nutty free-indie MADness. Yup.)
Radiohead – “In Rainbows” deluxe 45RPM 2XLP + 2CD + book [Xurbia_Xendless Limited] (I didn’t even own “In Rainbows” until I saw this sweet deluxe set at Park Avenue CDs in Orlando, Fla.; I’m glad I took the plunge, as this is a hell of a package and a value-builder to booooot.)
The Make-Up – “Destination: Love” LP [Dischord Records] (It’s hard to find Make-Up records, yet somehow I’ve amassed three in the last few years. Thank god for clerks that possibly mistake them for someone else by dint of the common-sounding name.)
D. Rider – “Mother of Curses” orange LP [Tizona Records] (Probably won’t get around to reviewing this, as I didn’t when the CD version dropped into my mailbox a few years ago, but it’s an interesting slice of moon from that US Maple guy.)
Servile Sect – “Stratospheric Passenger” 12-inch LP [Ecstatic Peace Records] (One of the best “WOAH WHERE DID THIS COME FROM” Used-Bin finds I’ve come across since growing the Grove. Ouch this is good.)
Three Mile Pilot – “Another Desert, Another Sea” 2XLP [Head Hunter Records] (This album just-plain doesn’t exist. Seriously, click the link and check out eBay; there isn’t a single copy, ANYwhere. Save for in my living room [and I found mind for $8.99 at Jackpot Records in Portland!], which … which feels good, it does … )
