Gossip: Wiz Khalifa estimates montly weed expense to be, “easily,” 10K [Curiosities #86]

By Curt Busch

If my calculations are correct, Gumshoe Grove favorite Wiz Khalifa is smoking just over one pound of the pots every week, an unusually large amount of anything one can, presumably, inhale into their body.

This impresses me on two fronts: (1) the sheer physicality of it; I mean, really though, remaining a conscious and functioning human being seems almost impossible while ingesting the aforementioned amount of drugs, and: (2) having the kind of cash flow warranting such purchases, especially considering the subject at hand is most famous for a mixtape, Orange Juice and Kush, surely one of the most popular of the year but, in any case, free to the public (in case you doubt this, download the whole thing FREE here).

I understand musicians today don’t make money off their music anyway (for the most part, it seems) but rather through endorsements and sponsorships, but I don’t remember hearing about Wiz cashing checks from Tropicana, or even Taco Bell, which is now offering $500 gift certificate, redeemable at their fine dining establishment, to bands who, and I quote from Taco Bell’s website, exhibit a “[passion] for their music and for Taco Bell.”

Wow, OK, I guess that makes sense? Am I supposed to make a joke here?

I know, I know, I’m taking a rapper’s word quite literally in this case and forgetting that in the above video Wiz is both high and drunk and, as any good swag-rapper is, akin to hyperbolic claims. But because we’re on the subject of marijuana, rap’s faithful mistress, and because Wiz seems eager to become part of the weed-rap canon including high-chairmen Devin The Dude, Bone-Thugs and the iconic Snoop Dogg (who presently makes an income from just existing), it seems reasonable to take his word without many grains of salt, or in this case, specks of shake.

Now go get that “4th meal,” Wiz.
