Pale Sketcher – “Plans that Fade” MP3/download
I’ll admit I didn’t find the latest Jesu EP to be appealing at ALL. The vocals especially left me with a dull, old-milk taste on my mouth. Well, here’s another project of Justin Broadrick‘s (also of Techno Animal and Godflesh), and it’s a lot better than the aforementioned Jesu EP.
Recorded under the moniker Pale Sketcher, “Plans that Fade” takes a little Vidna Obmana, a little Babe, Terror (I’m sooo in love with B,T), a sprinkle of echo-drenched Panda Bear-esque fare and just a flutter of dubby goodness to form its core, and the result is a twisting, wind-blown-cloud of a tune that, thankfully, relegates vocals to the background and focuses on atmosphere first and foremost.
I can only imagine what the rest of the record is gonna sound like; looks like you’ll need a pair of double-thick gumboots and a lantern just to get past the first layer, always a fun challenge to undertake.
