School Of Seven Bells live session FREE [Curiosities #54]

Know how I'm always complaining about press photos? Well this is a good one: School Of Seven Bells, yo!

School Of Seven Bells – Live @ WNYC [free!!!]

Blah. I realize this sort of thing — live sessions, radio sessions, acoustic sessions; pretty much any sort of session — is not exactly a near-extinct breed, but School Of Seven Bells have floated off my radar for awhile and now they’re back again thanks to this FREE live … SESSion at WNYC.

It’s mostly (OK, exclusively) acoustic, and despite all the negative memories that accompany that I’d suggest soldiering on. You’ll thank me later.

And I agree with the announcer — there’s something strange, mysterious about this ex-On! Air! Library!/-Secret Machines (the former of which I don’t care about, the latter of which I despise; also, I’m always confusing the former with One AM Radio, a much better band) outfit. You always hear about bands bucking classification, and it’s almost always smoke-and-rock-’n'-roll mirrors.

School Of Seven Bells prove to be the exception by dint of their quirky jams, unpredictable affairs that aggressively attack with their multi-pronged melodies and unusual harmonies. New album drops … soon, and it’s called Disconnect from Desire.

I’m not a news site; don’t push me for any more details, lest I respond by piercing you with my short spear (Year One? Anyone? No?).

One more question: Is the School Of Seven Bells really a pick-pocket school in the Andes Mountains? I doubt it. But I’m getting caught up in all the wrong details here; listen and LEARN my beautiful young leeches. I’ll take nurture over nature any day …

secret machines yeah… but their drummer was fierce!

    • was he? god they were pretty well-loved in their short time on earth, and i have a brown-marble 12″ of theirs i got at a record store going-outta-business sale, maybe i should reconsider them?

what’s their drummer doing now, i wonder?

there first album was good in a regurgitated classic rock kinda way. “alone, jealous, and stoned” is sort of memorable too.
