It’s been awhile since I’ve thrown down a Tonstartssbandht-related post — which is ironic for a few reasons, not the least of which being my total obsession with them — but here we GOOOOO man, a new album by Edwin White, half of T-startssbandht, under the guise Eola.

Anyone sorta thinking “areola”? No? Just me …

Lord’s Jam is Eola’s debut (on Does Are/Culture Dealer) and it has that charm I’ve come to expect from the White brothers, albeit in more collage-oriented form, with synths and chants dominating the day. The unrequited synth worship you can’t avoid these days isn’t really a trademark of Eola, however, thank Christ.

No, Eola are much too busy “wow”ing you with their Mouth Sounds to let anything else interfere on any more than a part-time basis. I picked up a Tonstartssbandht tape recently — hell if I can remember the name; it’s not the Parson Sound one though — that was also more drone-oriented like this, and while I hope White solo and White-with-bro don’t forget about their amazing roots (“Konig,” “Sarajevo Preadub,” “Subtropic Gleme Rock”), this new direction is just as exciting/spine-prickling.

I’ve got this addiction to Dolphins Into The Future, Tonstartssbandht, Locrian, Neptune and a few others that’s starting to interfere with my ability to listen to new bands. As a newspaper editor recently said to me on an unrelated topic (if you must know, the wild circulation growth of his publication and the attendant pains), “That’s a good problem to have.”

But I promise I won’t stop plumbing the depths for ya. Just don’t stop reading, brah. Practical matters of the Lord’s Jam detailed below …
