“Life quotes” Part 1 [Curiosities #53/Daily MP3 #86]

Totally unrelated photo, but if a photo's gonna be unrelated it might as well look like this. I actually pimped out my own version of this costume with my real hair in 10th or 11th grade ...

I’ll tell you the truth: I’ve been flirting with giving up this Blog thing. I’ve dropped so many other projects to keep this blog fresh and vital it’s totally insane. What’s the point?

Well, something tells me I should keep Gumshoe Grove going, so … I plan to. But that doesn’t mean I don’t need people to read the damn thing every once in awhile.

Tell your friends to check me out — SERIOUSLY, I’M DYING HERE.

With that out of the way I present to you, in order to soothe at least a few Fourth of July hangovers, a list of some of my favorite random quotes friends/acquaintances/etc. have blessed me with over the years.

And no, I’m not including any quotes from my in-laws because I’m trying to keep things fabulicious in my family:

  • “Me? I’m tweakin’ and beakin’.” [Uttered Gumshoe's way by a wire-thin University of Florida student I met while living in Fort Lauderdale, age 19. I still don't know WHAT in the hell this means but it's fully legendary.]
  • “Dude, you can’t listen to EVerything.” [As spoken by former Gumshoe bandmate and current Seven Cycles (Spokane) guitarist Jeremy Berg when he came to my apartment and noticed I was listening to Superdrag via their great split with The Anniversary (Hot Water Music's split with Alkaline Trio, which came out around the same time, was one of the first indie-rock recordings I got Berg into, in semi-related non-news). I used to think JB was wrong about this, but, more and more, I'm thinking he might have been right.]
  • “HEY. That’s my DINner.” [My wife Carolina Suarez-Purdum said this when I tried to poach a piece of her steak after finishing my own in 2007-odd. I LOVE it when she calls me out like that, hope she does more of it in the future.]
  • “Oh YEAh. Oooooh yeah. Yeah.” [My bud Joel Baxter, hilariously imitating Max Hardcore, the most disgusting man in the history of the earth. Now that I have a daughter I might just have to murder MH someday ... ]
  • “Mommy, I’m all shy.” [Penny said this; need you even ASK? I'll spare you a huge list of P-lo zingers and stop at this one.]
  • “Well hey, if you ____ you might as well ____.” [My dad Gary has cursed me with any number of variations on this quote. Usually stuff like, "Well hey, if you're gonna rent a boat why not save up for 20 years and buy one instead?" Oh man dad ...]
