Forced Entry are one of those bands I have several anecdotes about. (I was able to find a nice cross-section of their material on YouTube; notice how the opening riff for “Macrocosm, Microcosm” is exACTLY like the opening riff from Pantera‘s “Rise.”)
For one, a friend introduced me to the trio — consisting of Colin Mattson, Tony Benjamins and Brad Hull — in junior high and said, “I don’t show them to many people because I don’t want them to get ‘huge.’ ”
It was the first time someone had presented new music to me in that fashion. It definitely added some mystique.
Also, it turned out later that a gym teacher at Central Valley High School in Veradale, Wash., was either friends with the guys in Forced Entry or was IN Forced Entry; I can’t remember the rumor exactly.
The frequenters of Headbanger’s Ball also had a song called “We’re a Bunch of Dicks.” Now THAT’s thrash for ya: Never self-serious, always vulgar, always backed by at least a modicum of metal mystique and power.
Either way, this is a classic thrash-metal band in the mold of Anthrax, Exodus, Insult II Injury (speaking of which, I might have to do a post on them, too), Exhorder and, once they abandoned their punk roots, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, Bad Brains and Corrosion Of Conformity.
I enjoy their slow(er) songs the most, as the vocals get a bit dry when the dude’s yelling his ass off, but overall F. Entry are solid, stopping short of breaking the door down but managing to pound really, REALLY hard.
They fit so well with what I wanted out of bands when I was 13 and 14 I can’t help but get all nostalgic when I think about them. I’m not sure how well their music translates to the current music climate, but there have GOT to be others out there who remember this band.
Anyone?

i must comment about your comparation of “Macrocosm, Microcosm” and is that pantera’s rise song was made in 1992 and As Above, So Below was released in 1991
good point, i should have mentioned in the article that forced entry’s song came first. It’s funny because there’s a Helmet song (I’m sure you can guess which one) with a riff that sounds almost exactly like “rise” from In the Meantime. there were a lot of chunky, rhythmic riffs going around I guess …
