Clone Quartet … ooh boy, when I first slid this in the ol’ laptop CD slot I did an ear-drum double-take … are they serious?
They are. I could never recommend Well-Oiled Machine to anyone but the staunchest backers of the dance-rock revolution that, in my mind, has turned popular culture straight to shit with the majesty of a super-sadistic wizard.
I’d say Clone Quartet exist on the slightly less evil dance axis of The Chap, Franz Ferdinand, Supersystem, Edie Sedgewick, Postal Service et al … but even THOSE bands have grown tough to tolerate (and Supersystem is El Guapo, for christ’s sake) …
What a shame to waste a banger like “10 Lies,” flute-synths and all.
They ain’t as bad as Ting Tings, Scissor Sisters or any of the other gay-glow dance-”rock” groups (don’t make me pull out a can of whoop-ass and SMITE Passion Pit), but they ain’t exactly reinventing the wheel, either.
TIME’S UPPPP!!!

HA! “ear-drum double-take”, for sure. I thought I was listening to a South Park parody song for the first 20 seconds. I don’t want to hear anymore ‘indie-dance’ garbage, this is the worst trend in years.
shit, i thought this comment might have been someone defending Clone Quartet. Thank god! Yeah, fairly bush-league stuff, esp. with the new Silent League 2XCD proving how this shit is REALLY done!
I know I’m nearly a year late on this comment, wasn’t this record recorded in 2006/2007 released in December 2008? It was so out of date when it was released the band had totally changed line-up. Their last record ‘Broken Spectre’ came out in January 2010, maybe you meant to review that?
hmmmm … i’m going to double-check this but the clone quartet album i reviewed came in the mail in 2010 … maybe it was re-released or something? anyway, i’ll check this out and let you know what I find!
Hmmn, seems that I was a year off… ‘December 2007′ on the label site… http://www.smalltownamerica.co.uk/catalogue/STA038/well-oiled-machine
I remember the ‘Nu Rave’ thing was still in full swing when it came out… Clone Quartet were doing the electro/indie (with exceptional lyrics) for years. I remember watching them support Manitoba (pre. Caribou) in 2001… 10 years ago, blimey.
