[Check out my Drowned In Sound review of Black Fiction's Ghost Ride HERE and check out a sample of one of the album's highlights, "I Spread the Disease," over there ---->.]
Memory burn happens all the time when you review music. You’ll be checking out a new band that’s hot and wet in all the right places and discover that:
a) the band has already been around for a decade or more (circa Fat Day),
b) the band is already huge in the U.K. and the U.S. is just catching up (um, Arctic Monkeys?), or
c) the band contains a member from a great band you adore (circa Pinback, Black Fiction)
Who knew? I reviewed BF’s Ghost Ride 3 years ago, not knowing that a few years later its leader, Tim Cohen, would put together what amounts to one of my top-five active rock bands: The Fresh & Onlys.
Not only that, but I ripped on Ghost Ride a bit, chiding it for fake-y “digital-sounding” beats and annoying vocals. What the hell was I thinking?
Oh well; life goes on. Read my Black Fiction review, linked above, and stay tuned this week for reviews of the new Listenlisten (stay patient you crazy Texans!) and much more!
