I just had to share this with you before I watch Ren & Stimpy Season 3 (again) and pass the-fuck out.
This is a TV show or something; I can’t really tell because whoever posted the video left out any details that would help in this regard. What I do know is “Jackie,” given a straight reading here, is one of Scott Walker‘s best solo songs.
He’s a crooner, a poon-chasing, sunglasses-wearing, limo-riding rock-a-saurus and he’s got full orchestras backing him up! Absolutely NO ONE rocked it like SW.
Far from the hermit-turned-indie-genius he is now, Walker was boisterous, gregarious and almost bombastic back in the late ’60s.
And the lyrics: “I still know where I’d wanna be: Locked up inside my opium den, surrounded by some Chinamen, I sing the song that I sang then about the time that they called me ‘Shaggy’ “? FUCK YEAH!!!
I guess a weird dude is a weird dude, no matter the terrain (or spot on the pop charts) occupied. For all the hardships Walker likely endured for his almost boy-band status as a solo performer back then, he’s come through it better then almost anyone, looking healthy and vibrant in his sixties and consistently working on new material.
Oh yeah, there was that AMAZING documentary, too . Enjoy!
